-Why DFL?-
#112 Megan 'verona' Japczyk
The reason I chose DPhiL is because I wanted to be able to connect more to my culture of being half Filipino. Going to high school in a predominately white town, I never got to talk about my cultural experience with that many people. I always felt like an outsider when I would talk about my food and traditions.
I have gained so much from being a Sister and a lot of it is being able to express my culture without the feeling of judgement. I have learned to embrace that side of me and be a confident, strong woman. Spreading Asian Awareness has now become a passion of mine and I hope to continue it in my future endeavors. |

I chose DPhiL because of all the connections I made during my first year in college. Being away from home and having to find a community can be difficult as a freshman, but after finding DPhiL, I finally felt like I had a place where I belonged. It was also nice being with people who shared a similar background as me because I felt like they were always able to connect with me and my experiences. As someone who grew up in an area where I was not around many other Asians, I was so glad to finally have that sense of community and belonging. Since I’ve joined, I’ve made so many fun memories with my Sisters, and they have also been a significant emotional support system for me. Without my Sisters, I would not be the person I am today, and I am so grateful to have them all in my life!
